OTDR's
OTDR's
or optical time domain reflectometers are useful in
a number of ways. Their prime function is to accurately
find the distance along a fibre to a fault, break or
poor splice. It must be remembered that cables typically
incorporate 2-3% of slack in the fibre so that the fibre
position and the corresponding cable location can differ
slightly.
In
addition good estimates of the fibre loss and the return
loss of any events can be measured. The ability to measure
from only one end of the cable is very significant.
We
supply two types, a simple OTDR for basic installation
and commissioning and the more versatile Noyes. An
OTDR can also be used to monitor
any changes in a cable over time.
The
Noyes OTDR is an exceptional instrument that incorporates
a power meter and VFL. In addition the OTDR sources
can be used as light sources in conjunction with the
inbuilt power meter. 2 wavelength and PON 3 wavelength
versions available with filtered out 1625nm OTDRs for
live system testing. Filtered 1490, 1550nm FTTX power
meters also available.
