Fibre
and cable
makers.We
can offer reliable support, based on
many years experience, to companies
making optical fibre and fibre based
cables. We can help solve your issues
involving both measurement and
qualification techniques and assist
you in the selection of test equipment
for both optical and mechanical
characterization. We have direct
experience in fibre and cable making
and ensuring that the product meets
both national and international
standards. We also offer advice
for environmental and reliability
testing to the relevant standards
including test jig design and "best
practices" for reliable and efficient
production processes.
System
Installers.
Help can be given on key measurements
and technologies and the impact on
systems. This can be both
telecommunications and data
communication systems involving both
singlemode and multimode fibre
technologies. Further training can be
supplied on installation and
maintenance techniques by partner
companies.
Fibre
Sensing. The
advantages of fibre optics in sensing
applications has now become recognised
with both distributed and point
sensors being available. We have
direct experience in these
technologies and can help in all
aspects. These include assistance in
the choice of the best techniques and
in the implementation.
Network
Operators. We
can offer advice on maximising the use
of the optical fibre network, this is
often limited by the PMD and Chromatic
Dispersion characteristics. By careful
design, capacities can be maximised by
either operating at the highest
possible bit rates or by the use of
DWDM techniques.

Where a company is
developing new products or
applications we can provide
independent market knowledge and also
assist the company in contacting
target customers for verifying market
assumptions.

There are two
approaches that can be taken. Firstly
it can be profitable to provide to a
company a basic knowledge of a
subject. This could be aimed at a new
market segment that the company wishes
to enter or one that will have an
impact on the development of current
products. Secondly the development or
implementation of new technologies can
require that the knowledge base with
the company be updated. Typical
subjects that can be presented include
the impact of upgrading to 40GBit
operation, dispersion management for
high bit rate systems (including PMD
and Chromatic Dispersion) and the
implications of operating at higher
data rates for multimode fibre
networks.
